Dom and Dogs

As the new year unfolded for the Monterey Peninsula Bailliage, the officers got busy considering what to do for the first event of the year. Something new, something fun, something unusual; a mystery. And that became the impetus for another event is a string of what Bailli Glenn Hammer calls a ‘Mystery Progressive Dinner”. The Monterey Bailliage would have the best kind of mystery in front of them: where were they going and what would they be eating?

On the afternoon of Sunday, February 25th, members met at the home of Bailli Glenn Hammer and Dame de la Chaîne Sue Hammer on their patio tucked in the trees of the Del Monte Forest in Monterey. Glenn and Sue’s extensive personal wine cellar was generously shared in large format bottles of Sauvignon Blanc, Rose, and Pinot Noir that were in glasses within mere moments of guests opening the door.

For those who have been lucky enough to experience Glenn’s legendary homemade pizzas there is no mystery: they are the best! Bailli and Pizzaiolo Hammer made pizzas featuring crème fraîche and smoked salmon, corned beef and sourcrout, and a classic margarita.

With appetites tied over, it was time to move on to the secret location. The Monterey Bailliage piled on to a bus with no one aware of their destination. The destination was local hidden treasure, Lucy’s on Lighthouse, home to award winning hot dogs, crispy tater tots, and local Marianne’s ice cream. With welcoming surf tunes blazing in the background, this favorite hangout spot celebrates the spirit and culture of Nor Cal surf and skate.  This unconventional setting felt just right for another highlight… 2013 Vintage Dom Perignon.

Mysteries solved, members spent the rest of their evening enjoying specialty hot dogs, such as the Lovers Point, a bacon wrapped dog with guacamole, tomatoes, jalapeno, green onion and Lucy’s sauce, tricked-out tater tots, topped with pulled pork, tabasco onions, furikake and Lucy’s sauce, roasted brussels sprouts, all with glasses of Dom Perignon. Full Boat Marianne’s Ice Cream Banana Splits made a perfect end to a fun meal.

For the Monterey Peninsula Bailliage, the solution to the mystery was a perfect day!
